Solar Cold Room Power
UAE & Africa

Harutto Solar designs solar and hybrid power systems for cold rooms, refrigeration units, and temperature-controlled storage facilities in the UAE and Africa. Solar, battery, and optional generator backup sized to maintain your required temperature range.

Capability is subject to cooling load, insulation specification, ambient conditions, and selected equipment. A load analysis is prepared for every project.

Cooling Load Analysis

Cold room volume, insulation, ambient temperature, product load, and set temperature used to calculate cooling duty. UAE ambient heat fully accounted for.

Solar Array Sizing

Panel array sized to the compressor duty cycle and daily energy requirement, accounting for UAE irradiation profiles.

Battery Storage for Night Operation

LiFePO4 battery bank sized to maintain temperature through night-time and cloudy periods. Autonomy matched to risk tolerance.

High Inrush Inverter Selection

Inverters selected for compressor start-up inrush current capability. System tested under compressor start conditions during commissioning.

Generator Backup Option

Automatic generator start on low battery SOC for critical cold chain applications. Temperature maintained without operator intervention.

Temperature Monitoring & Alarm

Remote temperature sensor and alarm included. Data logger available for cold chain compliance records.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can solar power a cold room or refrigeration unit reliably?

Yes. Solar with battery storage can power cold rooms and refrigeration units. Refrigeration compressors have high start-up current (inrush), which must be accounted for in inverter sizing. The solar and battery system is sized to cover the compressor duty cycle, thermal load, and required autonomy. Harutto Solar carries out a load analysis before finalising the system design.

What happens if the battery runs low overnight?

For critical cold chain applications, Harutto Solar recommends a hybrid system with a generator backup to ensure temperature is maintained during extended periods of low solar irradiation. A low-battery alarm and automatic generator start protects product temperature. System design is based on the required temperature range, thermal mass of the room, and acceptable risk level specified by the client.

What size solar and battery system is needed for a cold room?

This depends on the cold room volume, insulation specification, ambient temperature (UAE heat significantly increases cooling load), product load, set temperature, and compressor efficiency. A 10m³ cold room in UAE conditions has significantly higher solar and battery requirements than a similar room in a temperate climate. Harutto Solar conducts a cooling load calculation before proposing a system.

Is solar cold room power suitable for pharmaceutical or medical storage?

Solar cold room power can be used for pharmaceutical and medical storage where temperature integrity is ensured through correct system sizing, battery autonomy, generator backup, and temperature monitoring and alarm. Compliance with applicable storage standards is the client's responsibility. Harutto Solar provides a system capable of maintaining the specified temperature range — traceability documentation and calibration requirements are confirmed at the design stage.

Can an existing cold room be connected to a solar power system?

Yes. Existing cold rooms connected to a generator or grid can be transitioned to solar hybrid power. Harutto Solar assesses the existing electrical setup, compressor type, and load profile before designing a retrofit solar and battery system. The transition is designed to minimise downtime.
